+ ASIST 11 Tune up

Half day workshop that consolidates and refines previous learnings from the ASIST workshop.

+ SafeTALK

A half-day alertness workshop that prepares anyone to become a suicide alert helper. Most people with thoughts of suicide don’t truly want to die but are struggling with the pain in their lives. Through their words and actions, they invite help to stay alive. safeTALK-trained helpers can recognise these invitations and take action by connecting them with life-saving intervention resources, such as caregivers trained in ASIST.

Workshop features:

  • Presentations and guidance from a LivingWorks registered trainer
  • Access to support from a local community resource person
  • Powerful audiovisual learning aids
  • The simple yet effective TALK steps: Tell, Ask, Listen, and KeepSafe
  • Hands-on skills practice and development

(available for people 15+ years)

+ Mental Health First Aid

Learn how to assist adults who are developing a mental health problem, experiencing a worsening of an existing mental health problem or in a mental health crisis, until appropriate professional help is received or the crisis resolves.

The 12-hour Standard Mental Health First Aid course is for any interested adult.

You will learn how to assist an adult who may be experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis until appropriate professional help is received or the crisis resolves, using a practical, evidence-based action plan.

This course is based on guidelines developed through the expert consensus of people with lived experience of mental health problems and professionals.

Evaluations consistently show that MHFA training is associated with improved knowledge of mental illnesses, their treatments and appropriate first aid strategies, and confidence in providing first aid to individuals with mental illness. It is also associated with decreased stigma and an increase in help provided.

+ Accidental Counsellor

Ever had to step in the shoes of an accidental counsellor?

The Accidental Counsellor Foundations Workshop will provide you with the necessary skills and tools to be able to step into the shoes of an accidental counsellor momentarily, respond appropriately, efficiently and effectively to people in crisis or distress when there may not be a professional immediately available.

Module 1: The Accidental Counsellor Module 2: Barriers to listening Module 3: Values and beliefs Module 4: Understanding conflict Module 5: Dealing with behaviours of concern Module 6: Professional boundaries & self-care
